What Is Titanium Bar

Titanium rod is a metal material mainly composed of α phase, with low specific gravity, good thermal strength, good weldability and excellent corrosion resistance. Its room temperature strength is low, and it is usually used as a heat-resistant material and corrosion-resistant material. Titanium rods can be divided into full α alloys (such as TA7), near α alloys (such as Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V) and α alloys with a small amount of compounds (such as Ti-2.5Cu) according to their composition and properties. In addition, titanium rods also have a variety of supply states, such as hot-rolled state (R), cold-rolled state (Y), annealed state (M), quenched state (C) and aged state (S), as well as different grades and implementation standards. For example, the titanium content of TA10 titanium rod is 99.7%, the impurity content is 0.01%, and it meets the national standard GB/T 2965-1996 and other standards. Titanium rods are widely used, including but not limited to aviation, aerospace, chemical industry, shipbuilding and other industrial sectors, and are used to manufacture gas turbine components, etc.

Benefits of Titanium Bar

Titanium rods are metal rods made of titanium alloys. They have high strength, low density, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, and are widely used in aviation, medical, chemical and other fields. The production process includes smelting, forging, rolling and heat treatment. The market prospect is broad, but the production cost is high, and the application range is expected to expand in the future.

Biocompatible

Whilst some metals (i.e. iron, steel and aluminium) can be toxic to humans, this isn't the case with titanium. As a result of being biocompatible with human tissues and bones, titanium can be safely inserted into the body-either to strengthen broken bones or for dental implants-without causing an adverse reaction.

Good thermal resistance

When compared with other metals, titanium has a low coefficient of thermal expansion which means it won't contract or expand anywhere near as much when put under extreme pressure. This is why titanium bars are frequently used in the construction industry where a rigid yet lightweight framework is desirable.

High melting point

Titanium bars have an exceptionally high melting point of 1668°C – approximately more than 400°F than steel and 2000°F above aluminium – which makes them suitable for an array of high-temperature applications.

Types of Titanium Bar

  • Ti square bar

Titanium square bar is a rectangular bar made of titanium and titanium alloys, also known as titanium square bar. Small density (4.51), light weight, good thermal stability. Titanium square rods are mainly used in electroplating and acid metal industries to make hangers and pendants.

  • Ti round bar

Titanium Round Bar is a long, cylindrical metal bar stock that has many commercial and industrial applications. It is been characterized by very high tensile strength even at high temperatures, it is light in weight and has high corrosion resistance and ability to resist extreme temperatures.

  • Titanium shaped bar

Titanium shaped bar, also known as titanium profiled bar, refers to titanium alloy materials that have been processed into various non-standard or custom shapes, rather than the traditional round, square, or rectangular cross-sections. These bars are typically manufactured through advanced forming techniques such as extrusion, rolling, forging, or machining to meet specific application requirements.

Titanium rectangular bar

Titanium rectangular bar is lightweight, strong, corrosion resistant and abundant in nature. It possesses tensile strengths from 30,000 psi to 200,000 psi, which are equivalent to the strengths found in most of alloy steels.

Titanium hex bar

Titanium hex bar is a low-density element (approximately 60% of the density of iron) that can be strengthened by alloying and deformation processing. It has good heat-transfer properties and it is nonmagnetic.

 Titanium shaped bar

Titanium shaped bars offer a combination of high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and light weight, making them ideal for use in demanding environments such as aerospace, medical implants, marine applications, chemical processing, and high-performance sports equipment. The ability to customize the shape of the titanium bar allows for optimized material usage and enhanced performance in complex structures.

titanium hexagon bar

Cp titanium hexagon bar displays excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. It is offered in four grades are CP-1 GR 4, CP-2 GR 3, CP-3 GR 2, and CP-4 GR

How to Chose the Right Titanium Grade

There are multiple grades of commercially pure titanium and titanium alloys, and you need to be sure that you get the right forms and grades to ensure your project is completed successfully.

While all grades are corrosive resistant, strong and lightweight, there are still some significant differences that could impact the final results. When you choose the titanium grade, it’s important to consider how the metal will be used, what conditions the titanium will be in, and the size of the titanium parts.

Pure grade titanium comes in four grades, each with different characteristics that make them ideal for different projects.

Below is a list of commercially pure titanium and many of the most common alloys, including the common product forms and usages. Understanding these traits and how they can impact your project can help you choose the right titanium grade for the job.

GR 1

Grade 1 titanium is the softest grade of titanium, which makes it very formable. It offers a high ductility while still maintaining the necessary impact toughness. This grade is most often used in plates, tubing, piping, and a range of other applications where a higher level of weldability and formability is important.

This titanium is used in a variety of industries and its characteristics make it an effective choice for:

aerospace

medical

marine

architecture

manufacturing

power

chemical processing facilities

desalination

automotive parts

airplane structures and frames

GR 2

For slightly stronger metal, there is Grade 2 titanium. It is still very moldable, but has a higher tensile strength. Grade 2 titanium is very widely available, which makes it more affordable than other grades. The common product forms include everything from bar and billet to plate and wire.

It has many of the same applications as grade 1 titanium, though it is also used in:

power generation

hydro-carbon processing

exhaust pipe shrouds

airframe skin

GR 3

Grade 3 titanium is not used near as much as grade 2, but it still has its uses. It is stronger than grades 1 and 2, features good weldability, and extremely high corrosion resistance. It is less moldable than the other 2 grades, but the added strength and resistance make it a good choice for:

chemical processing

marine applications

aerospace

It can be purchased in bar, billet, ingot. plate, and welded products.

GR 4

Grade 4 titanium is the strongest pure grade titanium, but it is also the least moldable. Still, it has a good cold formability, and it has many medical and industrial uses because of its great strength, durability and weldability. Grade 4 titanium is most commonly found in:

surgical hardware

heat exchangers

CIP equipment

It can be purchased in bar, billet, ingot, plate, and strip.

GR 5

Ti 6AI-4V (a.k.a grade 5) is the most common of titanium alloys, and it referred to as the “workhorse” of the aerospace industry for a reason. It can resist temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, is strong, light-weight, highly formable, and extremely corrosion resistant. It is made from the combination of titanium, aluminum, vanadium, and iron.

Grade 5 is popular in the aerospace industry for aircraft turbines as well as structural components, but it is also used in high-performance engine parts, sports equipment biomedical implants, and more. Common product forms include bar, billet, foil, sheet, seamless pipe, wire, plate and more.

GR 7

Grade 7 is the most corrosion resistant of the titanium alloys. It features most of the properties of grade 2 pure titanium, but the added palladium helps increase the weldability and formability. It is most commonly used in chemical production equipment, and is available in most product forms.

GR12

Grade 12 has a strength that is similar to the 300 series steels, and it has a very high formability and weldability, making it a good choice for various fabricated applications. Its high corrosion resistance also makes it a common choice for:

heat exchanges

chemical manufacturing

marine applications

aerospace applications

It can be purchased in bar, billet, plate, strip, wire, and welded pipe and tubing.

GR23

Ti 6AL-4V ELI, or Grade 23, has is often made into coils, strands, wires or flat wires. It is made of a combination of titanium, vanadium and aluminum, which gives it a very high tensile and yield strength while reducing the ductility and weldability. It also has a unique biocompatibility property that makes it popular for many medical and dental applications including:

surgical staples

ligature clips

pins and screws

and more

It has also found work in airframe components and ballistic armor. It is available in most common product forms, including seamless pipe and tubing.
