What is titanium metal?

Titanium is a silver white metallic chemical element with the symbol Ti and an atomic number of 22. It has characteristics such as high melting point, low density, and good corrosion resistance. ‌

The physical and chemical properties of titanium make it widely used in various fields, including aerospace, shipbuilding, chemical and petrochemical industries, transportation, weapons, ocean, power, construction, metallurgy, medical, sports equipment, daily necessities, and light industry. The discovery of titanium can be traced back to 1791, when British chemist William Gregor discovered it while studying rutile. Its name comes from the Titans in Greek mythology.

The main characteristics of titanium include:

characteristics of titanium

High melting point and boiling point: Titanium has a melting point of 1668 ℃ and a boiling point of 3287 ℃, which allows it to remain stable under extreme temperature conditions.

Low density and high strength: Titanium has a density of 4.506 g/cm ³, which is lighter than many other metals, but its strength is very high.

Good corrosion resistance: Titanium can remain stable in many acidic and alkaline environments, and even resist the corrosion of aqua regia.

Biocompatibility: Titanium is widely used in medical fields such as artificial joints and dental implants because it does not cause rejection reactions in the human body.

In addition, titanium also has shape memory and hydrogen storage properties, which make it widely applicable in multiple fields. Due to its stable chemical properties and excellent resistance to high and low temperatures, strong acids, and strong alkalis, titanium is known as the "space metal". ‌
