4. Introduction of titanium
Titanium is a non-ferrous metal, its chemical symbol is Ti, its atomic number is 22, and it is a silver transition metal. Specific gravity 4.5g/cm3, melting point 1668℃.British scientists first discovered titanium from the ore in 1791, and in 1795 German chemists also discovered and named titanium from the ore. The name is derived from Titans, the Hercules on Earth in Greek mythology. The reserves of titanium in the earth's crust are very rich, ranking fourth only to iron, aluminum, and magnesium in the metal, more than ten times more than the total of the common metals copper, nickel, lead, and zinc. Titanium is highly chemically active. Titanium was first refined in 1910 after it was discovered 120 years ago. It was only sporadically industrialized in the 1950s.
